Our Story
“3 Years, 3 Visas, 4 States, 6 Houses, 7 Jobs, Dozens of Flights, Hundreds of Connections, Thousands of Kilometres, and Countless Memories is the simplest way to describe my time in Australia so far”
“The last three years have not been how I envisioned them in the best possible way - I have had the privilige of living and travelling all over Australia, meeting some of the best people the world has to offer along the way. I want to help other people experience what I have and give back to the travel community in the way it has given to me”

September 2023
Choosing to move to Australia was the culmination of a lifetime fascination with Australian culture and a dynamic shift in personal values for our co-founder Jake. After experiencing a deeply personal tragedy at the age of 20, Jake realised the importance of not wasting time, seising your opportunties, and taking the leap. Jake moved to Melbourne in September of 2023 and first partook in a weeklong tour by the company Welcome to Travel. On the tour Jake made a number of important connections with people from around the world. Jake’s first weeks in Australia involved exploring the city of Melbourne, venturing around the state of Victoria, and seeing kangaroos and koalas in the wild for the first time. When the tour wrapped up Jake moved into an apartment with some of the friends he had just made. Next, he set out to find a job and quickly secured a position as a bartender at a small tiki bar called The LuWoW. Over the next months Jake lived and worked in Melbourne, spending time and deepening his connection to his friends as well as saving up money for The East Coast and looking for regional work to complete his 88 days.
In January of 2024 Jake said goodbye to Melbourne and flew north to Cairns. He spent the following weeks touring around Queensland with stops in Airlie Beach, Hervey Bay, Noosa, Brisbane, and The Gold Coast. This brief vacation ended when Jake secured farmwork and moved to Farmgate Backpackers, a working hostel located in Childers, Queensland. His second year visa was secured following 3.5 months of lemon tree pruning and spending time with the other backpackers at the hostel, people that would become heavilly infleuntial figures in his life. Jake left the farm and completed the East Coast. He had the privilige of seeing K’gari, Sunshine Coast, Byron Bay, and Sydney before flying home for a wedding back in his hometown of Aurora, Ontario, Canada.
September 2024
Jake spent the summer of 2024 back home reconnecting with friends and family. After living abroad Jake felt unfullfilled back home and chose to move back to Australia in September of 2024. He chose to relocate to Sydney as his Farmgate friends had recently moved there as well. The first week back in Sydney Jake successfully interviewed for a full time marketing job with iRock Entertainment, a marketing company specialising in curating events for students and backpackers. Working at iRock allowed Jake to gain a behind the scenes look at the Australia Youth Travel and Tourism industry. Every week Jake would connect with key figures in Australias hostel and travel scene, building a network of hostel and travel company owners across Australia.
While not working Jake built a small community of friends from all over the world. Frequently spending time with coworkers turned friends, friends he met doing his regional work and two of his highschool friends that he helped make the move to Australia. During the winter of 2025 Jake realised that he was close to finishing his second working holiday visa and was confronted with the possiblity of having to move back home. Jake decided that he wanted to stay and continue building his life in Australia and applied for a student visa. Jake’s application was successful and now attends ILSC pursuing a business certificate and project management diploma. Jake lived and worked in Sydney for a year and a half before taking an opportunity to move back to Melbourne to work on an event with The Emerson, a nightclub and rooftop bar in South Yarra.
Today
Jake now lives in Melbourne doing work for The Emerson as a bartender and marketing consultant, working closely with the local university community to plan events as well as assisiting with events marketing across the venue.
Jake co-founded Boomerang in June of 2026, pouring most of his time outside work hours into the business and helping others achieve their dream of moving to Australia, just like he did.
